1. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They allow the site to remember information about your visit — such as your preferences, login state, or whether you have seen a particular notice — making your next visit easier and the site more useful to you.
Similar technologies include local storage (used to remember your cookie consent choice on Ashiri) and analytics scripts. We refer to all of these collectively as “cookies” in this policy.
2. Why We Use Cookies
We use cookies and similar technologies to:
- Keep the platform functional and your session active while you are logged in.
- Remember your cookie consent preference so we do not ask repeatedly.
- Understand how visitors use our site so we can improve it (analytics — only with your consent).
- Identify and resolve technical issues.
3. Cookies We Use
The table below describes the categories of cookies used on the Ashiri platform.
| Category | Purpose | Consent Required? |
|---|---|---|
| Strictly Necessary | Session management, authentication state, security tokens. The platform cannot function without these. | No |
| Preference / Functional | Stores your cookie consent choice (via localStorage key ashiri-cookie-consent) so the consent banner is not shown on every visit. | No (required for consent to work) |
| Analytics | Google Analytics 4 — tracks page views, session duration, referral sources, and user interactions to help us improve the platform. No personally identifiable information is collected by GA4 under our configuration. | Yes — only loaded if you click “Accept all” |
4. Third-Party Cookies and Services
4.1 Google Analytics 4
When you accept analytics cookies, we load Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to help us understand how users interact with the Ashiri platform. GA4 sets its own cookies (e.g. _ga, _ga_*) on your device. These cookies typically last up to 2 years. Google acts as a data processor on our behalf under a Data Processing Addendum.
You can learn more about how Google uses data at policies.google.com/privacy.
4.2 Formspree
Our contact form uses Formspree to handle submissions. Formspree may set functional cookies to prevent spam submissions. These are strictly necessary for the contact form to work. See Formspree’s privacy policy at formspree.io/legal/privacy-policy.
4.3 No Advertising Cookies
We do not use any advertising or retargeting cookies. We do not share your data with ad networks or social media platforms for targeting purposes.
5. Managing Your Cookie Preferences
5.1 Ashiri Consent Banner
When you first visit Ashiri, a consent banner appears at the bottom of the screen. You can:
- Accept all — enables strictly necessary cookies plus Google Analytics.
- Necessary only — enables only strictly necessary and preference cookies. Google Analytics will not load.
Your choice is stored in your browser’s local storage. To reset your preference and see the banner again, clear your browser’s local storage for ashiri.ng or use your browser’s developer tools.
5.2 Browser Settings
Most browsers allow you to refuse or delete cookies through their settings. Please note that disabling strictly necessary cookies may prevent certain parts of the Platform from working correctly. Guidance for common browsers:
5.3 Google Analytics Opt-Out
To opt out of Google Analytics tracking across all websites, you can install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
6. Your Rights
Under the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR) and Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA), you have rights regarding data collected through cookies. For details, see our Privacy Policy — Section 8.
To exercise your rights or raise a concern, contact us at [email protected].
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy when we add new services or change how existing technologies are used. Updates will be reflected by a new “Last updated” date at the top of this page. For material changes, we will also update our consent banner.
